Garage door permits in Los Angeles
LADBS says its e-Permit system can issue a building permit to replace doors with the same size, type and location as the existing doors. Changing the size, type or location, or replacing the door jamb, needs a plan check at a LADBS Construction Services Center. (source: City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety)
Same size and type door change outs for homes are on the LADBS express permit list, which needs no plan check. (source: City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety)
The door between a house and an attached private garage must be self closing and tight fitting: solid wood at least 1 3/8 inches thick, or rated for at least 20 minutes of fire protection. A private garage may never open into a bedroom. (source: City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety)
In most cases only one inspection is needed, after the new doors are in. LADBS Customer Call Center: 888-LA4BUILD (888-524-2845) inside Los Angeles County. (source: City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety)
