Garage door permits in San Diego
San Diego exempts installing replacement doors in existing openings at detached single dwelling units, duplexes and townhouses, when the exterior flashing is not modified, the rough opening is not changed, and the doors are not required to be fire resistive or meet Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone rules. Its bulletin covers doors in general and does not single out garage doors. (source: City of San Diego Development Services)
When a permit is needed, same size and type door replacements with no change to the opening can get a No-Plan Building Permit. A pre-construction inspection is required for all repair and replacement in kind permits. (source: City of San Diego Development Services)
Owner-builders sign Owner-Builder Verification Form DS-3042; tenants and lessees may not sign it. (source: City of San Diego Development Services)
